The same account works in Eightify's iPhone and Android apps, where you paste or share a link instead.
The company behind it, Rational Expressions, claims 500,000+ users on its homepage, while the Chrome Web Store listing shows around 200,000 extension users and a 4.0 rating from about 860 reviews. The pitch is simple: decide in a minute whether a two-hour podcast is worth your time, or get its main points without watching at all.
The core output is a list of key insights, which you can tune by focus (insightful, actionable, controversial or funny), format (list or questions and answers) and length. Timestamped sections make long videos navigable, and Eightify says it handles videos up to 10 hours long, from lectures to congressional hearings.
Beyond the summary, Eightify offers a transcript it says is better than YouTube's own subtitles, an overview of the top comments to show whether viewers found the video useful, summaries and translations in 40+ languages, and one-click sharing that turns a summary into a readable article. Its store listing says the summaries are generated with Claude and ChatGPT models.

Eightify is unusual in not publishing its prices. The homepage has no pricing page, the old pricing address returns an error, and the Chrome Web Store listing says only that the extension offers in-app purchases and a 7-day free trial with unlimited summaries, charged when the trial ends. Plan prices appear after you sign in and can differ between the website and the app stores. Third-party sites have reported figures ranging from about $4 to $7 a month and around $50 a year, which suggests prices change with promotions.
The lack of a visible price matters because of how the trial works. You commit to a subscription before seeing it in action beyond seven days, and some App Store reviewers have complained about renewals after cancelling. Eightify says you can cancel at any time from the subscription section of your account, including during the trial; if you subscribe through Apple or Google, cancel there. Set a reminder before day seven.
The release history is the other thing to weigh. When we checked in September 2026, the Chrome extension's latest version, 1.643, dated from November 14, 2025, and the iPhone app's latest version from April 3, 2025. The service still worked, but a summarizer that sits inside YouTube's pages depends on regular updates to keep up with changes to YouTube and to AI models.
That does not make Eightify broken. It does mean you are paying for a tool that is not visibly improving, in a category where large AI companies now offer similar features for free.
The competition has caught up. Gemini can summarize a YouTube video on request, including on its free plan, and NotebookLM accepts YouTube links as sources for summaries, questions and audio overviews at no cost. YouTube itself shows a transcript under most videos. For people who already pay for an assistant, ChatGPT or Claude can summarize a transcript pasted into the chat.
Eightify keeps a few advantages: the panel appears inside YouTube without leaving the page, it summarizes comments, and its insight formats are tuned for skimming. For people who summarize several long videos a day, that convenience may justify a subscription. For everyone else, the free options above cover the job without a trial clock.
