Happy Scribe is the transcription tool to pick when the job is subtitles and translation across languages rather than English meeting notes. It covers over 150 languages for AI transcription and has a proper subtitle workflow. The pricing page in October 2026 is also much clearer than it was in the spring. Basic costs $17 a month for 120 AI minutes, Pro $29 for 600 and Business $89 for 6,000.
That clarity exposes the useful number. Extra minutes cost $0.20, so Basic stops being the cheap option at about three hours a month.

The overage rate is the trap. At $12 an hour, extra minutes cost more than four times Pro's included rate. On Basic, a single extra hour brings the month to $29, which is exactly what Pro costs with seven more hours included.
Three thresholds decide the plan, and they come straight from the table above.
Up to 2 hours a month, Basic at $17 is enough. Between 2 and 3 hours, Basic plus overage still costs less than Pro. Above 3 hours, Pro is cheaper, and it stays cheaper until about 15 hours a month. At 15 hours, Pro plus five hours of overage reaches $89. Above that, Business wins on price, and its 100 hours leave room for a busy month.
File length can decide before volume does. Basic stops at 90 minutes per recording, and the free trial at 45. Long interviews, webinars and podcast episodes need Pro.
Seats matter for teams. Pro includes 3 and Business 5, with extra seats at $29 a month, or $19 on yearly billing. A four-person team on Pro pays $58 a month before any overage.
Happy Scribe's human service starts at $2.00 a minute on Free, Basic and Pro, and $1.90 on Business. The company advertises 99% accuracy from professional proofreaders, with delivery from 4 hours.
That is about 40 times the cost of Pro's included AI minutes. The rate makes sense when a mistake has a cost: court and legal recordings, medical dictation, and broadcast subtitles going to a large audience. For internal meetings and show notes it rarely does.
The sensible default is AI first, then decide per file. Run everything through AI transcription, read the output, and send only the files where errors matter to a human proofreader. Happy Scribe doesn't publish an AI accuracy figure on its pricing page. Your own audio is the only reliable test, and noisy recordings with several speakers are where AI output needs the most fixing.
Language coverage is the reason this tool exists. The pricing page lists over 150 languages for AI transcription and subtitles, over 80 for AI translation, and over 65 for human proofreading. All of them are available on every plan, including the trial.
For video teams, that turns a three-step job into one. You transcribe the source, edit subtitle timing, then translate the subtitles into other languages without leaving the tool. That workflow is why localization teams pick Happy Scribe over cheaper English-first services.
Coverage is not the same as quality. Accuracy drops on less common languages and strong accents. If your work is in a smaller language, spend the 10-minute trial on your hardest real file, not a clean sample.
Teams that need notes from live English meetings get more from a meeting recorder. Otter and Fireflies join the call, label speakers and push action items to your tools, and both have free plans.

Treat human proofreading as a per-file decision rather than a default. If your work is English meeting notes, a meeting recorder will cost less and do more.
